PSHE

At St Francis Catholic Primary School, our approach to RSE and PSHE is rooted in the dignity of the human person and the Gospel values of love, respect, and compassion. We educate children within the rich moral and spiritual tradition of the Catholic Church, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to navigate relationships, emotions, and the wider world with confidence and integrity.

A Curriculum That Nurtures the Whole Child

Our RSE and PSHE curriculum is designed to nurture pupils spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally, empowering them to make wise and informed choices in their lives. We follow a faith-led, age-appropriate programme that integrates Catholic teaching with statutory guidance, ensuring that pupils develop a deep respect for themselves and others, an understanding of personal responsibility, and an appreciation of the sacredness of relationships.

Teaching RSE in the Light of Faith

In line with Catholic teaching, our RSE programme encourages pupils to recognise that they are uniquely created and loved by God. We teach about relationships in a way that upholds the sanctity of marriage, family life, and the importance of mutual respect. Pupils learn about the beauty of human dignity, the importance of emotional well-being, and the call to live lives of virtue. All topics are delivered with sensitivity and in partnership with parents, ensuring that our approach aligns with the values of the Catholic community.

PSHE: Preparing Pupils for Life in the Modern World

Our PSHE curriculum ensures children develop emotional resilience, social responsibility, and an understanding of how to stay safe and healthy in an ever-changing world. Through engaging lessons, reflection, and discussion, pupils explore themes such as mental well-being, online safety, financial awareness, diversity, and British values—all through the lens of Catholic social teaching.

A Partnership with Families and the Church

We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children, particularly in matters of relationships and personal development. Our programme is delivered in partnership with families, offering guidance and support to ensure that our teaching complements the values upheld at home. The role of the Church is also central, as we seek to nurture children’s understanding of Christian love and their vocation to serve others with kindness and integrity.

A Foundation for Life

At St Francis, RSE and PSHE are more than just subjects—they are a foundation for life. By fostering a strong moral compass, a sense of belonging, and an appreciation of God’s plan for human relationships, we prepare our children not only for academic success but for a future where they can flourish as responsible, faith-filled citizens of the world.
